"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Not a real vent, but how about a 'search' function for the Factory section of the website, please?

  2. After reading about all the great store deals no way would I buy any of the pencil skirts I have been eyeing online. I mean why pay $69.99 for a skirt others can get for 1/2 that? I will just do without....

    1. Genny, I agree. I was able to grab a navy and green no.2 for $17.99 with the current sale. Never again will I pay full price.

    2. Great deal for that skirt! Congrats.

    3. There is a navy No. 2 pencil skirt? How have I not seen this?

    4. Sophisticated chic, where did you purchase the navy pencil skirt and did they have a size 8?

    1. I agree with the wish list...I have been using the seesthesale site (thank you, audreybella!), but honestly, wouldn't their marketing department benefit from looking at wishlists and seeing trends? You would think this would be something J Crew would develop ASAP - it could help their merchandising quite a bit!

    1. The Robson store has the sale going on. Sign up with an in-store personal shopper and she will e-mail you when events happen at the store.

  6. Carolyn, the Toronto store is running the additional 30% off promo, so the Vancouver store should be doing the same.

  7. Carolyn - Bellevue Square is. Yesterday they did not have the signs out but they were telling people.

  8. We also need a more extensive search on swimwear. They need it more like LE.

  9. I purchase almost all of my sweaters from Jcrew. Its really annoying when I've only had the sweater for a few weeks and it gets caught on something and snags. I'm getting better at figuring out which sweaters snag easily versus other sweaters.

  10. Ordering online...ugh! I hate not trying things on in general, so naturally I tend not to order clothing online when possibly...but J.Crew is the worst. The last issues I have been having is that is takes forever for my order to processed and then shipped! I'm fine with ground shipping...that's my choice, but what does it take forever for the order to be processed and then get to the actual shipping center? UGH...always happens. J.Crew's turnaround on shipping, for me, is usually bad.

I've placed several orders lately and one I placed early last week for swimwear and it just now was shipped...really? It shouldn't take a week to process my order.

Okay vent over. I'm not sure if I want to order online anymore.

  11. I'm tired of the pricing game. Online and store prices should be the same, or as close as possible. I don't know any other retailer that has such large differences in pricing.

  12. I 100% agree about the price games. I don't live near a B&M so I'd like to order a couple of things but they are so much cheaper in store right now that I just can't justify it. There needs to be more consistency between in-store and on-line.

  13. On the vein of a better website - how about allowing customer reviews on items. FFS so many other sites do it, why not JCrew? Are they afraid? Sigh.

    1. You got it. They know there are quality issues and that we are not afraid to share that info :)

  14. Does anyone else have problems with the pencil skirts baggy rears? I always have to have them fixed they pooch out below the zippers

  15. Totally agree with the discrepency between online prices vs. sale prices and promos being super, super annoying. It's so annoying to see something on sale in the store, they don't have your size, so you look online and it's full price. What the what?! Why can't they figure out how annoying that is for customers?

I'd also love to see a wishlist!

  16. Quality is an issue! I just returned yesterday the off the shoulder tank (swimsuit) because when I tried it on - I realized J.Crew had sewn the bottoms in BACKWARDS. Under the ruched tank, there are bikini briefs attached, and they were backwards (you can imagine how THAT fit)... it took a minute to figure out why it was so poochy and baggy in the bottom front. How can a swimsuit that originally costs $118 NOT be checked for quality assurance? I did not choose to purchase another swimsuit from J.Crew and got all my money back. to spend elsewhere.

  17. J. Crew swimsuits are annoying. They are pretty colors and nice materials, but they don't fit right. I've tried on various tankinis and one-piece suits, in various sizes, and they hardly ever fit me right. I don't know what kind of a body they are made for. I'm average, not hard to fit, normally. I've never tried a brand of swimsuit that I just couldn't wear, before trying J. Crew. I think they are using a bunch of models rather than real people, when they make these and decide that they fit. Fit them on real people if you want to sell them to real people. They seem able to do it with their other clothing, so I don't know why they have so much trouble with swimsuits.

    1. Interesting. I have been buying J.Crew swim suits for 10 yrs. They have consistently fit me great.

    2. Problems are always with the tops for me. No support and not enough coverage where it's needed. The tops just hang there, as if they're decorative rather than functional.

    3. ITA cate. the tops are all TINY. lots of them have descriptions that say "fits A/B cups best". ugh so frustrating. i know they make D cup sizes, but those are also the frumpiest styles. I'm young, I don't want to wear a tankini just because I'm busty. Plenty of other retailers are able to make a basic triangle top that has enough coverage that I don't feel too exposed, why can't JC figure it out?

  18. I have a vent and a praise. Like others I'm tired of the vast discrepancies between B&M and online prices. I first chanced upon the Martina Suede Wedges on sale for $69.99 at the Michigan Ave Store in Chicago. I didn't by them because they were a 6.5 and I needed a 7.5 I was also in a hurry so I did not place a red phone order. Fast forward to today, I went to the fifth ave store in NY and asked a SA to help me place a red phone order for the Martina Suede Wedges. She informed me that they can only order them at the online price because they don't have the physical shoe in stock and they also can't honor the current B&M 30% off sale promotion. That was exceedingly frustrating so I left the 5th ave store.

I tried my luck at the Prince St store. An awesome SA helped me place a red phone order and honored the store price of $69.99 and the 30% off sale promotion. After adding my student discount, the shoes came out to $42. The awesome customer service that I received made me happy and giddy for the rest of the day.

In summation: J Crew needs consistent store policies and pricing across the board.

  19. FYI.....I just received the Pop Art Polka Dot pencil skirt. It appears online to be navy with WHITE dots.....actually the dots are a creamy beige. When compared to the Big Shot dot skirt the navy in the Pop Art Skirt is pretty dark and the dots are beige. The Big Shot Dot skirt is white with navy dots. Just thought that might help with some ordering decisions.

  20. I tried to do a sale send over the phone and the associate told me I have to go into a store and have them call! I've done sale sends over the phone with other stores so it's annoying how inconsistent some of these policies are,

  21. I hate it when they raise the price of popular items. For example, yesterday the Factory bubble necklace was $69.50. Today, it is $88. How greedy of them!!! And it is SO not worth even the original price.

  22. I got the Emerald Villa Dress last week, wore one, got a tiny spot of makeup on it. Here it is:
    http://handbagaficionado.blogspot.com/2012/06/birthday-shopping-at-tory-burch-jcrew.html

Used a small dab of spray and wash - and it's ruined. Turned blue. Not sure about the fabric - it's supposed to be washable. Apparently not.:(

wore it once for a few hours, can't wear out now or return since the color ruined. Bummer.

  23. Tammy - Why can't you return it? Does the dress say it is washable? I'd sure give it a try! I'd probably contact Spray n Wash as well. I had some spray starch that left blue splotches one my husband's Lands' End dress shirts (which was yellow) and they were quite determined to find out what/why it happened. The eventually asked me to send them the shirt - and they got the spots out from the spray starch. It's worth a try???
    Good luck.

  24. Has anyone been able to shrink the minnie pants once they stretch out? Mine are close to falling off at this point, but the size down is too small... Not sure what to do. It would be great if the pants and skirts would just hold their shape for more than a couple months of occasional wear.
